CTA Architects Engineers

Company Overview

ideas • goals • objectives
Established in 1938 as one of the nation's first A/E firms, CTA has grown to provide a wide variety of project services to our clients. Each year, CTA completes over 500 projects in a broad range of project types including commercial, public, medical, industrial, educational, residential, community, and regional planning.

Smart business practices, financial diversity and most of all, a strong commitment to employees are not goals at CTA, but an integral part of our culture along with individual ownership of responsibility, reward for contribution and expectations for success.

communications • opportunities • achievement
CTA's success and that of our clients are mutually dependant. Our mission is to listen and be responsive to the needs of the people who occupy or use the projects that we design.

We embrace our leadership role in the design team and emphasize client focus, design quality and environmental consciousness while performing our services to deliver the highest value design solutions and to create quality living environments.

Our objective is always to discern our client's goals and bring the added value of the talents and abilities of our design professionals in ways that will provide a level of service beyond our client's expectations.

responsibility • ownership • merit
Design is approached at CTA with a holistic view. The success of a project in not merely how well it photographs. There must be a complete approach; resolving all aspects of the project including site, context, architecture, engineering systems, interior, image and function.

"Architectural style" and "design philosophy" are not interchangeable. Design philosophy is more encompassing; the designer's skill and talents are used to develop the best overall solution for each specific design application.

ethics • opportunities • achievements
Sustainable building practices are embraced at CTA. We understand and accept our responsibility and leadership role in advancing design and building practices which protect our natural resources. Our LEED certified professionals, energy conservation and alternative energy design solutions, as well as maintaining on-going training in the latest sustainable building design practices all demonstrate our commitment to protecting our environment while enabling clients to achieve goals.

openness • honesty • integrity
People design and build projects - companies don't. CTA understands the value of our people and dedicates a tremendous amount of energy and resources to support, training and professional development.

CTA actively seeks out and recruits the most skilled and talented individuals then provides the tools and training to become strong, contributing, successful professionals. We are adamant supporters of the IDP program and encourage the rapid achievement of professional registration. CTA continues to support professional development in numerous ways, including over 20 in-house accredited CEU courses.

Company History

It all began around a campfire in 1938
One evening after a day of fishing on the beautiful Boulder
River in southcentral Montana, Ralph Cushing and Everett Terrell
made a bold decision. While sipping sour mash along the riverbank
beside the glowing embers of their campfire, Cushing, a structural
engineer, and Terrell, an architect, decided to leave their present
employer and begin a partnership of their own. Hence, began the
historic tale of Cushing & Terrell • Architects-Engineers who forged
a legacy with the unheard-of-alliance between an architectural
and engineering firm under one roof.

The core business philosophy of the original Cushing & Terrell
Organization centered on the integration of design disciplines on
their projects. We maintain that tenet, and as building design and
engineering systems become more sophisticated, we continue to
add specialists to our staff who allow us to provide a complete,
integrated package of services to deliver the highest value design
solutions and to create quality living environments.

Since that eventful day in 1938, our name has evolved
from Cushing & Terrell • Architects-Engineers to Cushing Terrell
Associates to CTA Architects Engineers to the current CTA, Inc.
Cushing and Terrell’s golden rule of openness, honesty and
Integrity remains deeply rooted within our company.

Today, CTA responds to the challenges and expectations
of our clients throughout the United States and selected foreign
locations. CTA works closely with them to translate their ideas,
goals and objectives into design solutions that are aesthetically
pleasing, functional, resource efficient and cost effective.
